Data Caching tutorials

  • Data caching is the caching of data from a data source. As long as the cache is not expired, a request for data will be fulfilled from the cache rather than the original data source. If the cache is expired for whatever reason, fresh data will be obtained by the data source and the cache will be refreshed. The cache can expire for many reasons, as you will see. These can include timeouts, changed data, or changes to other objects.

  • Data caching have following inherited properties are:

    1. EnableCaching: This property specifies whether or not to cache data.true/false.

    2. CacheExpirationPolicy: Specify the cache expiration behavior that, when combined with the duration, describes the behavior of the cache that the data source control uses

    3. Cache Duration: sets the length of time, in seconds, that the data source control caches data that is retrieved by the SelectMethod property.

    4. CacheKeyDependency: Specify user-defined key dependency that is linked to all data cache objects that are created by the data source control.

    Caching with the data source controls is very easy: all you need to do is set the EnableCaching propertyand then specify a CacheDuration. The following code snippet shows a SqlDataSource control that caches its data for 10 minutes:

<asp:SqlDataSource ID=”SqlDataSource1” runat=”server” CacheDuration=”600”

EnableCaching=”True”>

</asp:SqlDataSource>
