ADO.NET Object The DataTable tutorials

  • A DataSet contains a collection of DataTables, which allows you to add more than one table to a DataSet. Like a table in a database, the DataTable is made up of rows and columns, which represent elements and attributes respectively.

  • The names of the individual tables within the DataTable’s collection are case sensitive, so you can have both a Customers and a customers table in the same DataSet. Be sure that you use the correct case-sensitive table name when typing in your source code.

  • In order to work with a DataTable, you should be familiar with its many properties, methods, and events. In your code you can react to events that occur within a DataTable, such as the changing of a value within a row or the deletion of a row. You can also accept or reject all changes made to a DataTable.

  • The below table shows the properties of the Data Table.

String value comparisons within the table can either be

case sensitive (True) or not (False )

Specify the collections of Constraints.

Indicates that one or more data elements within this table has an error

Sets the primary key for the table

The identifying name of the table

Identifies a customized view of the table, if desired

The name of the DataSet this table belongs to

  • The below table shows the methods of the DataTable

This mehod accepts and commits all changes made within the table

Adds a new DataRow to the DataTable

Rejects and rolls back all changes made within the table

Produces a version of the DataTable containing items that have been changed since the last commit or data load

Creates a copy of the DataTables format, including the loaded schema and constraints

Creates a copy of both the DataTables format and the data currently contained in the DataTable

Removes all data from the DataTable

Loads a DataRow from an external source into your DataTable

Creates an array of rows that currently contain errors

Allows you to create an array of rows that match a certain criteria, similar to executing a SQL SELECT statement against your DataTable
