REPEATERS tutorials

  • Repeaters are networking devices that allow you to connect segments, thus extending your network beyond the maximum length of your cable segment.

  • A repeater functions at the physical layer of OSI model and connects two segments of the same network.

  • A multi-port repeater, known as hub connects several segments together.

  • It can connect segment of the same network that uses different media type such as Ethernet segment using coaxial cable and another using CAT 5.

  • It receives the incoming signal and cleans it up

  • It re-times the signal to avoid collision on the network

  • It transmits the signal onto the connected segment.
