String in C tutorials

  • If you had notice, char data type allows only single character to work with.

  • String is contiguous sequence of chracters.

  • If you need to use string, then in C we have to use array of characters, terminated by '\0' that coorsponds to ASCII character null.

  • To use string functions like len,strcpy,strcat in c we need to include <string.h> libraray file in program.

  • A character array can be declared and initilized in following ways:

char website[7]={'c','b','t','S','a','m','\0'};

char name[]="Samir”;

C Program to use char array, and print it using loop

Sam Sir

#include<stdio.h>

// Program to use char array, and print it using loop

main()

{

int i;

char ch[6]={'c','b','t','S','a','m'};

for(i=0;i<=5;i++)

{

printf("%c", ch[i]);

}

}

Output

cbtSam

C Program to use char array and print it without using loop

Sam Sir

// program to use char array and print it without using loop

#include <stdio.h>

void main()

{

char st[7]={'c','b','t','S','a','m','\0'};

char name[]="Samir";

printf("\n String is = %s",st);

printf("\n Name = %s",name);

}

Output

String is = cbtSam

Name = Samir

C Program to enter string and print it

Sam Sir

// Program name : test067.c

//WAP to enter string and print it.

#include <stdio.h>

#include <conio.h>

void main()

{

char st[50];

int n;

printf("Enter String : ");

scanf("%s",&st); // accept string but will end Accepting when it comes across space

printf("\n Entered String is = %s",st);

}

Output

Enter String : cbtSAM

Entered String is = cbtSAM

Enter String : SAM COMPUTERS

Entered String is = SAM
