ROUTER SECURITY tutorials

  • The following example will help you to set password on console as well as telnet session. So when any one tries to configure router, one has to provide password and thus only authorized user will be able to access router

  • The password control access to priviledged EXEC mode

  • The enable password is stored in clear text (i.e. not encrypted)

  • The enable secret password is stored in encrypted form

  • The router uses the enable secret password if it exists

  • The enable and enable secret password shod be different

  • Passwords are case-sensitive so sam is different than Sam.

 

Router# config terminal [setting password for enable]

Router(config)# enable password sam

Router(config)# enable secret cisco123

Router(config)# exit

Router# sh run [note password shown in clear text]
