Average of 10 & 5 = 7

  • As explained in earlier program, run above program, if you observed that avg = s/2; this statement will calculate and transfer average by dividing sum by 2.

  • Run above program and if you observe properly, if your values is like 10 and 20, average will be shown perfectly i.e. 15.

  • But if you enter two values for a and b variable as 10 and 5. Average is not right. It should show 10 + 5 i.e. 15 / 2 answer should be 7.5 but it is showing answer as 7. Why it is so can you guess?

  • This is because we have declared avg variable as int. int variable can store only integer values. So whenever you need answer with decimal, you need to declare that variable as float.

  • Now make change in the above program and rerun it again.

Sum of 2 + 5 = 7

Average of 2 + 5 = 3.5

If you observe, we have declared avg as float variable and same way while calculating avg, we have divided s with 2.0F. So it will first type cast s value to float and then it will display answer with decimal digit
