CSS Background-Position: Horizontal Vertical tutorials

  • The background-position property sets the starting position of a background image.

  • Sets the initial position of the element's background image, if specified; values normally are paired to provide x, y positions;

  • Default position is 0% 0%.

  • If only one position is specified, the other value will be "Center".

  • Where Horizontal is: percentage | length | left | center | right

  • And Vertical is: percentage | length | top | center | bottom

 

Background-Position: value

Description

Left top

Left center

Left bottom

Right top

Right center

Right bottom

Center top

Center center

Center bottom

Depending upon your description image will get displayed.

If you specify only one value, the other value will be "Center".

 

X% Y%

·         By default it is set to 0% 0%

·         The first value is horizontal X position in Percentage and second value is vertical Y position in Percentage.

·         The Top Left corner is 0% 0%,

·         The Top Right corner is 100% 0%

·         The Bottom Left corner is 0% 100%

·         The Bottom Right corner is 100% 100%

·         If you specify only one value, other will be 50%.

Xposition Yposition

·         The first value is horizontal X position in Pixel and second value is vertical Y position in Pixel.

·         The Top Left corner is 0px 0px,

·         The Top Right corner depends upon Screen Resolution

·         The Bottom Left corner depends upon Screen Resolution

·         The Bottom Right corner depends upon Screen Resolution.

·         If you specify only one value, other will be 50%

·         You can mix Percent% and Position pixel too.

The value "inherit" is not supported in IE7 and earlier versions. IE8 requires a <!DOCTYPE> declaration. IE9 supports "inherit" value.
