CSS Background- Repeat tutorials

  • This property determines how background images specified by the property background or background-image tile when they are smaller than the canvas space used by their associated elements.

  • Possible values are repeat (repeats in both direction), repeat-x(repeats only horizontally), repeat-y (repeats vertically), and no-repeat. The default value is repeat.

 

Background-repeat value

Description

Repeat

Causes the background image to be repeated along both the horizontal and vertical axes.

Repeat-x

Causes the background image to be repeated along the x axis.

Repeat-y

Causes the background image to be repeated along the y axis.

No-repeat

Prevents the background image from being repeated at all.

Note

The value "inherit" is not supported in IE7 and earlier versions. IE8 requires a <!DOCTYPE> declaration. IE9 supports "inherit" value.

 

Example: The following example shows the use of CSS background- repeat property. In this example the background images are repeated in the x axis.
Output:
  • From the above example, the background-repeat property, repeat the images in x axis.

 

Example: Similarly from the above example now the background images are repeated in y axis.
Output:
  • From the above example, the background-repeat property, repeat the images in y axis
