CSS list-style-type tutorials

The CSS list-style-type property defines labels for a list of items.

 

List-style-type: value

Description

Disc

The marker is a filled circle. This is default for <ul>

Circle

The marker is a circle

Square

The marker is square

Decimal

The marker is a number. This is default for <ol>. Decimal numbers, beginning at 1.

Decimal-leading-zero

Decimal numbers padded by initial zeros (e.g., 01, 02, 03, ..., 98, 99).

Lower-alpha

Lowercase ASCII letters (a, b, c, ... z).

Upper-alpha

Uppercase ASCII letters (A, B, C, ... Z).

Lower-roman

The marker is lower-roman (i, ii, iii, iv, v, etc.)

Upper-roman

The marker is upper-roman (I, II, III, IV, V, etc.).

None

No list item marker.

Armenian

Traditional Armenian numbering

Cjk-ideographic

The marker is plain ideographic numbers

Georgian

Traditional Georgian numbering (an, ban, gan, ..., he, tan, in, in-an, ...).

Hebrew

The marker is traditional Hebrew numbering

Hiragana

The marker is traditional Hiragana numbering

Hiragana-iroha

The marker is traditional Hiragana iroha numbering

Katakana

The marker is traditional Katakana numbering

Katakana-iroha

The marker is traditional Katakana iroha numbering

Lower-greek

Lowercase classical Greek alpha, beta, gamma, ... (α, β, γ, ...).

Lower-latin

Lowercase ASCII letters (a, b, c, ... z).

Upper-latin

Uppercase ASCII letters (A, B, C, ... Z).

Inherit

This will specify whether list-style-type property can be inherited from the parent element to child elements.

IE9 or earlier, Opera 11 or earlier do not support  cjk-ideographic, hebrew, hiragana, hiragana-iroha, katakana, and katakana-iroha styles.

IE8, and earlier, only support the property values: decimal-leading-zero, lower-greek, lower-latin, upper-latin, armenian, Georgian. 

The value "inherit" is not supported in IE7 and earlier versions. IE8 requires a <!DOCTYPE> declaration. IE9 supports "inherit" value.
