CSS Margin tutorials

  • This is shorthand property which sets the space between four sides in one statement.

Specifies the margin in px, pt, or em.

Specifies the margin in % of the containing element.

  • Each individual margin value can be set from one to four values.

  • A single value copies the margin to all four sides.

Example margin: 5px;

All four margin of 5px.

 

  • If you specifies only two values, the first sets the margin width will set it for the top and bottom, and the second sets the margin will set it for right and left.

Example margin: 10px 20px;

Top and bottom margin are 10px.

Left and right margin are 20px.

 

  • If you specifies three values, the first sets the margin for the top, the second sets the margin for the right and left, and the third sets the margin for the bottom.

Example margin: 10px 20px 30px;

Top margin is 10px.

Right and Left margin are 20px.

Bottom margin is 30px.

 

  • With four values, the margin is set individually in the order of top, right, bottom, and left. In general, missing values are inferred from the value defined for the opposite side.

Example margin: 10px 20px 30px 40px.

Top margin is 10px.

Right margin is 20px.

Bottom margin is 30px.

Left margin is 40px.
