For..in JavaScript Statement tutorials

  • The for in statement is similar to a for statement in that it repeatedly executes a set of statements. However, instead of iterating the statements based on the loop condition, it executes the statements for all properties that are defined for an object.

Syntax: the syntax of the for in statements is as follows:

for( variableName in objectName) {

statements

}

  • The for in loop executes the statements enclosed in braces one time for each property defined for objectName. Each time the statements are executed , the variable specified by variableName is assigned a string identifying the current property name.

  • Example: For example, consider the execution of the following for in statement in the case of the employee object having the properties employeeID, employeeName, and employeeLocation.

for(prop in employee)

document.write(prop+"BR")

  • The above for in statement would cause the following text to be written to the current document:

employeeID

employeeName

employeeLocation

These are three properties that are defined for the employee object.
