lastIndexOf() JavaScript Array method tutorials

  • JavaScript array lastIndexOf() method returns the last index at which a given element can be found in the array, or -1 if it is not present. The array is searched backwards, starting at startIndex.

Syntax:

array.lastIndexOf( searchElement [, startIndex]);

  • searchElement : Element to locate in the array.

  • startIndex : The index at which to start searching backwards. Defaults to the array's length, i.e. the whole array will be searched. If the index is greater than or equal to the length of the array, the whole array will be searched. If negative, it is taken as the offset from the end of the array.

Example: JavaScript example to show how to use the lastIndexOf() method with an array.
Output:

for 30 lastIndex is : 3

for 20 lastindex is : 4

for 75 lastindex is : -1

Note: If it doedn't find value then it will return -1 as shown for 75 number third example.
