The Screen Object tutorials

  • The screen object contains information about the visitor's screen.

  • Although most information about the userís system is hidden for security reasons, it is possible to get a certain amount of information about the userís monitor using the screen object.

  • The screen object typically contains the following properties (although, as usual, many browsers add their own properties):

The height of the screen (in pixels) available for use by windows. This takes

Into account the space needed by operating system elements such as the Windowstaskbar.

availWidth

The width of the screen (in pixels) available for use by windows

colorDepth

The number of bits used to represent colors. For most systems, this is 32.

4 bits equals to 16 colors

8 bits equals to 256 colors

16 bits equals to 65536 colors

24 bits equals to 16.7 million colors

32 bits equals to 4 billion colors

height

the height of the screen in pixels

width

the width of the screen in pixels

 

Example:The following example shows the use of colorDepth property.The colorDepth property is supported in all major browsers.
Output:

Output in Google Chrome

Color Depth: 32

Output in FireFox

Color Depth: 24

 

  • From the above example, if we run this program in Chrome browser then the output will be Color Depth:32.but if we run this program in FireFox the output will be Color Depth:24.

 

Example:The following example shows the use of availWidth property. The availWidth property returns the width of the visitor's screen, in pixels, minus interface features like the Windows Taskbar.
