Linux Ubuntu Installation step by step tutorials

 

This tutorial will teach you to install Linux Ubuntu 12.04 on a Virtual Machine

First download Oracle VM VirtualBox from the website

http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/virtualbox/downloads/index.html

and install it.

You can download the Linux Ubuntu .iso file from following website

http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop

 

1)Start Oracle Virtual Box Manager and Click on the New icon on the VirtualBox Manager

 

 

2) The following screen appears to you. Type the name of the operating system as you wish and select Linux in the type of OS select Ubuntu as the version.

 

3) Specify the memory (RAM) in megabytes to be allocated.

If your PC has 2 GB RAM the recommended RAM for Linux Ubuntu is 512 MB

If your PC has 4 GB RAM the recommended RAM for Linux Ubuntu is 798 MB

If your PC has 8 GB RAM the recommended RAM for Linux Ubuntu is 1 GB

Click on the Next button after specifying the appropriate RAM size.

 

 

 

4) Now it's time for specifying the hard drive space.

Check the radio button for Create a virtual hard drive now and click the Create button

 

5) Now tick VHD (Virtual Hard Disk) as the Hard Drive file type and click Next

 

 

6) Now storage on physical hard drive as Dynamically allocated and click Next

7) Now select the path location where you want to save the .vhd (Virtual Hard disk file ) and specify it's size. 8 GB is recommended disk space and click Next button.

With these steps you have successfully created a virtual hard drive. Now it's time to install Linux Ubuntu.

 

8) Select the virtual hard drive you have created make sure it shows Powered Off and click the Start arrow displayed above. Now you can see the following screen. Now select the path location where you have stored and saved .iso file (Disk image file) of your Linux Ubuntu and click Start.

 

 

9) You can see the following screen. In Ubuntu OS 12.04 or any edition the first two digits specify the year and remaining two digits specify the month. In this case the Ubuntu installed is of April 2012.

After this screen you will be redirected to the following screen.
