Microsoft Visual Basic Scripting tutorials

  • Microsoft Visual Basic Scripting Edition brings active scripting to a wide variety of environments, including Web client scripting in Microsoft Internet Explorer and Web server scripting in Microsoft Internet Information Service. It is easy to Use and Learn. If you already know Visual Basic or Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), VBScript will be very familiar. Even if you do not know Visual Basic, once you learn VBScript, you are on your way to programming with the whole family of Visual Basic languages.

What is VBScript?

  • VBScript is a subset of Visual Basic 4.0 language. It was developed by Microsoft to provide more processing power to Web pages. VBScript can be used to write both server side and client side scripting. (If you already know Visual Basic or Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), VBScript will be very familiar. Even if you do not know Visual Basic, once you learn VBScript, you are on your way to programming with the whole family of Visual Basic languages.)

  • QuickTest's Expert View is a VBScript Editor. Therefore, in addition to entering test object statements and other testing-oriented functions, you can manually enter any valid Microsoft VBScript statement. You can also use the Step Generator from the Expert View or from the Keyword View to insert many VBScript statements.

Welcome to the QuickTest Object Model Reference.

  • QuickTest records your test in VBScript, which is Microsoft's Web scripting language. Your test script is a combination of standard VBScript statements and statements that use QuickTest test objects, methods and properties.

  • A test object is an object that QuickTest uses to represent an object in your application. Each test object has one or more methods and properties that you can use to perform operations and retrieve values for that object. Each test object also has a number of identification properties that can describe the object.

  • Although some of the commands in VBScript may not work on QTP, following part will help you to incorporate VBScript commands in QTP.

  • To Try VBScript commands Start New Test from FILE NEW TEST and then Click on "Expert View" panel. Type your VBScript command and to execute the script press function key "F5" or click on Run button.
