Server Roles for WINDOWS SERVER 2003 tutorials




Application Server

A server that provides services for some commercial application lets say IIS, ASP.Net or host Web applications

DHCP Server

Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. It Dynamically Assign IP Address to client PCs on the network

DC (Domain Controller & Active Directory)

Provides Directory services and Authenticate for Computers, Users, Groups, Organization Unit. it manages LOGON process & directory search

DNS Server

It resolves (FQDN) COMPUTER NAME to IP NAME Address &


FILE Server

Stores SHARED Folder, Files and Manages access, Permission and securities for these files.

Mail Server

PRINT Server

  • After installing a server you can add or remove server role using Manage your Server Wizard console. Do as follows.

  • Start → Program → Administrative tools → Manage your Server Wizard

  • Click Next twice, Window will gather information about Server Current role, and then it display List of Available Server Role with details.

  • If Role isn’t Configured then you can Add it or If you want you can remove it.
