Available only through the OEM manufactures like IBM, DELL, HP. It cost thousands of dollars and significant hardware investment. It require rigorous level of OEM support. If something goes wrong, the vendor is likely to send professional from their side and you are not suppose to do anything. The server that costs thousands of dollars has legal responsibility, vendor has to ensure that server functions correctly.

 

WINDOWS 2008 Web Edition

  • Web Edition is targeted at Web Application Server and Hosting Company

  • RAM 32 bit version (x86) supports maximum of 4 GB

  • 64 bit version (x64) supports maximum of 32 GB

  • Processor Both 32 bit and 64 bit support up to 4 Processors

  • Function does not support Active Directory

  • does not support high powered hardware configuration

  • No Virtual Machine

  • basically suited for Web site Hosting company and intranet

 

WINDOWS 2008 Itanium Edition

  • Itanium based edition is designed for INTEL ITANIUM 64 bit processor. Itanium architecture is different than x64 architecture that you find in INTEL Core 2 Duo or AMD Turion based processor.

  • Both application and web based functionality is provided by Windows Server Itanium based system

  • Virtualization (Hyper V) and Windows Deployment services are not provided.

  • Windows 2008 Itanium can only be upgraded from Windows 2003 Itanium edition
