What is Migration tutorials

  • This is also known as a refresh computer scenario.

  • Migration is process of clean installing on existing computers to create stable and secure environment.


You can have 2 migration scenarios,

1) Side by Side Migration

2) In Place Migration.


  • In side-by-side migration, the source computer and the destination computer are two different computers. Where as

  • In Place Migration, the source computer and the destination computer is the same computer.


Process of Migration


  • Backup before installing new operating system, backup user related settings and program setting. You can use WET Windows Easy Transfer or USMT User State Migration Tool.

  • Install Windows 7 execute Setup.Exe from media, perform clean installation. Select Custom Advance option during installation process and then do as directed.

  • Update - perform Windows Update to download any critical fixes and drivers. This step will keep system protected against security threats.

  • Install Applications. After Clean installation, you need to reinstall applications. While installing applications on Windows 7, only righteous applications will be installed. Application vendor might need to update application to run on Windows 7.

  • Restore After installing your application, use WET Windows Easy Transfer or USMT User State Migration Tool to get user-related data and settings.
